Lore & origins

The Seraphim are Battle Sisters whose faith is so bright that the Emperor himself seems to guide their actions. They are chosen from the Sisters who show the greatest skill and zeal. Seraphim are trained to fight with jump packs and, most importantly, to shoot two pistols at once with complete control and accuracy.

Seraphim squads swoop down on the enemy from above, firing as they land and then fighting in close quarters. Their training is rigorous and their appearance on the battlefield is a source of awe to Imperial soldiers.

Seraphim Superiors sometimes carry relic weapons from the order's history, and they fight all the harder to make sure those irreplaceable heirlooms do not fall to the enemy.

Some battle-sisters' faith burns so brightly that the Emperor Himself seems to guide their hand. These Sisters become Seraphim. They must prove close-combat aptitude and long experience, and joining is a great honour. They spend many years mastering their order's ancient fighting arts, including using pistols in brutal melee the way other warriors use knives. Imperial troops report a surge of courage when Seraphim descend on jump packs, as if the Emperor's angels had come in answer to their prayers.

Seraphim are chosen only from Sisters with clarity of purpose, exceptional talent and inhuman dexterity, and even among those, few prove capable. The angelic outline created by their jump packs is reported as an unexpected benefit. Some speculate it was designed deliberately long ago to inspire the faithful and frighten the corrupt. The sight of Seraphim descending has more than once restored the morale of PDF and Astra Militarum troops worn down by heavy losses, who describe feeling protected by a higher power. The Order of the Sacred Rose groups its elite Seraphim into squadrons called "Flamewings," known for keeping their accuracy while moving.

Battlefield role & tactics

Seraphim are fast-moving shock troops. They leap across the battlefield to strike exposed units, deliver close-range firepower with their paired pistols and destroy vehicles with inferno pistols.

They are the Sisters' hit-and-run specialists, hunting heretics from above. Seraphim drop into the thickest fighting, unleash a hail of pistol fire and flame, then leap away. They are excellent against light infantry and characters hiding in cover, but they lack the punch to take on heavy armour without inferno pistols.

Seraphim are fast skirmishers who dive into the enemy and fire twin pistols at close range. They are good at killing light infantry and support teams and at reaching objectives. They are fragile and best used for surgical strikes.
