Lore & origins

Battle Sister squads form the core of the Adepta Sororitas, the military arm of the Ecclesiarchy. Most Sisters were raised as orphans in the Schola Progenium and chose service in an Order Militant. They live lives of prayer and discipline, and they go to war wearing power armour, carrying bolters and singing hymns.

The Orders Militant trace their origin to the Age of Apostasy in the 36th Millennium. The Ecclesiarch Goge Vandire had turned the Daughters of the Emperor into his bodyguard, but their leader Alicia Dominica learned the truth of his tyranny and turned against him. After Vandire's fall, the Decree Passive forbade the Ecclesiarchy to keep "men under arms", and the Sisters became its armed force instead.

The largest Orders include the Order of Our Martyred Lady, the Order of the Valorous Heart, the Order of the Bloody Rose, the Order of the Ebon Chalice, the Order of the Argent Shroud and the Order of the Sacred Rose. The Order of Our Martyred Lady was formerly called the Order of the Fiery Heart. Its first canoness and patron saint was Katherine, Dominica's second-in-command, and it was renamed after her martyrdom.

The Adepta Sororitas began as the Daughters of the Emperor, a cult that Goge Vandire took over during the Age of Apostasy. The Ecclesiarchy was forbidden to have 'men under arms', so the Sisters became its military arm. Saint Alicia Dominica and her Sisters turned on Vandire once they realised his crimes, and after Sebastian Thor's reforms the Orders Militant were bound to the Ordo Hereticus. Today the Orders Militant include Our Martyred Lady, the Valorous Heart, the Bloody Rose, the Ebon Chalice, the Argent Shroud and the Sacred Rose. Battle Sister squads are the core of their armies.

Battlefield role & tactics

Battle Sister squads form a dependable battle line with strong anti-infantry firepower and close-range flamers and meltas to burn and melt anything that comes near. Their faith gives them miraculous resilience, and they often fight beside Celestians, Retributors and penitent units.

Battle Sisters are line infantry who advance under bolter fire and flamer bursts, using their faith (Acts of Faith or Miracle dice) to accomplish extraordinary feats. They are reliable and steadfast, but less durable than Astartes, so they need support and transports.

Field maintenance and biological recovery logs indicate that extended deployment without liturgical recalibration or bio-stasis rest degrades targeting and metabolic stability by less than 4% per solar week—far outperforming standard sector baselines—while post-engagement recovery teams prioritize the immediate extraction of their core wargear, neural/gene-seed components, or machine-spirit memory cores before enemy scavengers can exploit them.
