Sortiarius — The Nine Cults of Prospero & The Rubric of Ahriman
From their inception during the Unification Wars as the 'Thousand Sons' (so named because the Emperor personally selected one thousand genetically compatible initiates from the Achaemenid Empire of Terra), the XV Legion was plagued by the 'Flesh-Change'—spontaneous, catastrophic genetic mutation triggered by their unprecedented psychic potential. To save his dying sons when he took command on Prospero, Magnus the Red struck a secret bargain inside the Warp, sacrificing his own right eye to Tzeentch without realizing the true price.
On Prospero, the Legion was organized into five 'Fellowships' and nine scholarly Cults centered in the glass pyramids of Tizca: the Corvidae (divination), Pyrae (pyromancy), Pavoni (biomancy), Athanaean (telepathy), and Raptora (telekinesis). After Leman Russ burned Prospero and the Flesh-Change returned on the Planet of the Sorcerers (Sortiarius), Chief Librarian Ahzek Ahriman cast the 'Rubric of Ahriman'—turning every non-psyker brother in the Legion into disembodied ash sealed forever inside power armour, while amplifying the surviving Sorcerers' powers tenfold.
