The Aett — Canis Helix, The Rout & The 13th Great Company

To outsiders the Space Wolves (known in their own Juvjk tongue as the 'Vlka Fenryka', Wolves of Fenris) appear to be superstitious barbarians who drink toxic 'Mjod' and reject the Codex Astartes. In truth, their feral persona is a calculated mask honed since the Great Crusade, when the VI Legion ('The Rout') served as the Emperor's unspoken Executioners—the force dispatched when a rebellious world or even another Space Marine Legion needed to be erased from history.

Their gene-seed is defined by the 'Canis Helix', a volatile genetic sequence that grants hyper-acute Lupine senses and fangs, but carries the perpetual Curse of the Wulfen. Because the Canis Helix violently rejects non-Fenrisian DNA—as proven when Magnus the Red destroyed the laboratories of Wolf Priest Wyrmblade under the Fang during the First Battle of the Fang, ruining the Chapter's only attempt to cure the flaw and create stable successor Chapters after the disastrous Wolf Brothers—the Space Wolves remained a single oversized Chapter until Belisarius Cawl's Ultima Founding created the Wolfspear.

Sub-Factions, Secret Orders & Classified Relics

  • The 13th Great Company (The Wulfen) — Warriors who followed Leman Russ into the Eye of Terror after the Heresy and fought for 10,000 years inside the warp, scavenging armour from dead Chaos Space Marines.
  • The Wolf Brothers (2nd Founding — Excommunicate Traitoris) — The tragic sole Second Founding successor of the VI Legion, disbanded after their unstable Canis Helix mutated the entire Chapter into feral beasts within a single generation.
  • The Redmaw & Deathwolves Great Companies — Led by Bran Redmaw (who physically transforms into a towering Wulfen monster in the heat of battle) and Harald Deathwolf.
