Lore & origins

A Forgefiend is a Daemon Engine used by the Chaos Space Marine Legions and by the Dark Mechanicum. It was devised by the Warpsmiths, the Chaos equivalent of Techmarines, who bind daemons into machine bodies.

The most common armament of a Forgefiend is a pair of Hades autocannons, one on each forelimb. Others carry ectoplasma cannons, one on each arm and another inside the beast's maw. A Forgefiend is effectively a living gun battery, hungry for destruction.

The Forgefiend is a Daemon Engine, a daemon bound into a war machine by the Warpsmiths and the Dark Mechanicum. Its heart is a warpfire furnace that drives its limbs and powers its guns. It feeds on metal as readily as flesh, and a well-fed Forgefiend can keep firing for a long time.

A Forgefiend refills its ammunition by eating metal as easily as flesh. A well-fed Forgefiend can keep up a stream of shells for several minutes before it stops to load more raw material into its feed hoppers. The Warpfire Furnace in its heart drives both its movement and its guns, and it burns with fire carried over from the Warp when a daemon was bound into the engine.

Hidden intestinal tracts feed steaming ammunition into the Forgefiend's autocannon chambers, and every round carries daemonic flame. Its ectoplasma cannons are mounted in gargoyle housings that drip balefire.

Appearance & wargear

A Forgefiend is a hulking four-legged daemon engine of iron and flesh, with huge rotary cannons or glowing plasma weapons, smokestacks and a fanged maw.

Roughly centaur-shaped, it walks on four powerful legs. Instead of arms, it has two weapon mounts. The most common are Hades autocannons, six-barrelled rapid-fire guns. A variant called the Cerberite carries ectoplasma cannons on both arms and a third in its maw.

It is a roughly centaur-shaped beast standing on four legs, with its arms replaced by weapon mounts. Hades autocannons fire glowing phosphor shells through writhing internal cables. Cerberite variants carry plasma weapons from before the Heresy that have been corrupted by Warpsmiths.

Battlefield role & tactics

The Forgefiend is a heavy fire support daemon engine that can destroy both infantry and vehicles.

The Forgefiend is a mobile fire-support engine. Hades autocannons chew through infantry and light vehicles, and ectoplasma cannons hit heavier armour. Its rounds are not ordinary shells but glowing red-hot projectiles made in its own furnace.

The Forgefiend is the long-range partner of the Maulerfiend. Hades autocannons kill infantry and light vehicles. Ectoplasma cannons fire a mixture of plasma and burning ectoplasm that is better against heavy armour. A Forgefiend is tough and can keep firing even when damaged, but it is vulnerable to massed anti-tank weapons and to being tied up in close combat.

Forgefiends often lead Heretic Astartes attacks. Hades-armed engines sweep away infantry screens, and Cerberites hunt heavier targets. They keep up fire for long stretches before having to stop and feed.
