Overview

Anrakyr the Traveller is a Necron overlord who roams the galaxy to reunite the scattered dynasties and restore the glory of the Necrontyr empire. He gave up his throne to pursue that mission. Wherever he finds a tomb world under threat he intervenes, and wherever he finds lesser races squatting on Necron land he treats them as trespassers to be purged.

He carries a Tachyon Arrow, a one-shot weapon able to bring down a Titan, and a warscythe. His ability to seize control of enemy war machines with his mind makes him feared by Imperial tank crews. His Pyrrhian Eternals, veteran Immortals, follow him wherever his quest leads. Anrakyr was once Overlord of the Pyrrhian Dynasty. He woke early and saw what had become of the Necron empire: tomb worlds sleeping, lords lost to madness, and lesser races squatting on Necron ground. He chose a mission rather than a throne. With the remnants of his immortal legion, the Pyrrhian Eternals, he travels between tomb worlds to awaken them, and can seize control of enemy war machines through sheer will.

Origins

Anrakyr woke from the Great Sleep with his mind and memories intact, which is rare even among the nobility. He found his race fractured, its dynasties isolated and many tombs still slumbering or failing. He abdicated rule of the tomb world Pyrrhia and left with his surviving Immortal veterans, the Pyrrhian Eternals, to rouse his kin.

Key events

  1. Reached Morrigar in 805.M41, after hive-gang warfare had accidentally woken and then destroyed its Necron tomb. He blamed the newly arrived Cadian 207th and attacked them, wiping out the regiment at heavy cost to his own forces.
  2. Joined the Necron defenders of the Lazar System in 859.M41. At the Battle of Dreadpeak his Pyrrhian Eternals stormed the Silver Skulls' downed battle barge Argent Hammer, and he turned its guns on the Space Marines, forcing the Chapter to withdraw.
  3. In 902.M41, his fleet emerged from the dead moon of the T'au colony Ka'mais and destroyed a dozen hive ships of Hive Fleet Gorgon. This may have been the first contact between T'au and Necrons.
  4. Was welcomed by the grateful T'au of Ka'mais as a saviour, then ordered the 'Harvest of Ka'mais', in which most or all of the colonists were killed or taken.
  5. Arrived in 999.M41 at a world he believed to be the tomb world Carnac and found it settled by Exodite Aeldari. He called on other Necron lords for aid, starting the Carnac Campaign, in which Sautekh forces from Mandragora and other Necron nobles became involved.

Two campaigns in the Necron background show the two sides of him. In 902.M41, in what may be the first meeting between the T'au and the Necrons, a Necron fleet rose from the dead moon of Ka'mais and destroyed a dozen hive ships of Hive Fleet Gorgon attacking the T'au colony. The colonists greeted Anrakyr with celebration. He ignored it and ordered the Harvest of Ka'mais, in which most or all of the T'au population were killed or taken. At Carnac, the Exodites and Alaitoc, guided by Farseer Eldorath Starbane and Illic Nightspear, tried to cut the head off his army with hit-and-run strikes. Orikan the Diviner's astromancy clouded Starbane's foresight, so the Pathfinders kept arriving where Anrakyr had been, not where he was.

Battles & campaigns

  • Lazar System, Battle of Dreadpeak (859.M41): His Eternals stormed the Silver Skulls' downed Battle Barge Argent Hammer.
  • The Carnac Campaign (999.M41): He found his target tomb world overrun by Aeldari Exodites.

Personality

Anrakyr is noble, driven and uncompromising, a true believer in the old empire. He is honourable towards his own kind, but completely indifferent to the gratitude or suffering of the younger races, as the T'au of Ka'mais learned. He has little patience for nobles content to slumber while the galaxy is overrun.

His crusade has a price. From every tomb world he wakes or frees, he asks for a tithe of warriors and weapons, and if it is refused he takes it by force or trickery. A newly woken tomb is confused and disordered, so this is easy to arrange. As a result, some nobles consider him the highest example of nobility, a lord who gave up rank and title for his people. Others, especially those who did not give willingly, call him a masterless brigand, almost as great a danger to the sleeping tomb worlds as any of the younger races. The codex says he would rather be supported willingly, but need comes first. He also does not seek war for its own sake, because his forces are too few to waste.

Weapons & Vehicles

Signature Wargear & PanoplySelf-appointed champion of the Awakening Empire, Anrakyr the Traveller leads his Pyrrhian Eternals swinging an oversized, glowing emerald Warscythe paired with a wrist-mounted Tachyon Arrow—a single-shot hyper-velocity dart capable of one-shotting an Imperial Titan.

Legacy

Anrakyr is the wanderer who seeks to reunite the Necron dynasties. He is one of the few nobles who woke with his mind clear and his purpose intact, and his mission makes him a natural rallying point for tomb worlds still stirring. The Harvest of Ka'mais shows the cold indifference beneath his nobility. Anrakyr fights not for conquest but for the return of an empire, one tomb at a time.
